Key Active Projects:

  • Vinyl Alcohol Copolymer Manufacturing Line (UK)
  • Green Hydrogen-Based Steel Production Facility (Sweden)
  • Refinery Retrofit Project (Sweden)

Polymer Manufacturing Line (UK): Supporting a New Digital Approach

Buro Matei is providing consultancy support to the vinyl alcohol copolymer manufacturing line EPC project in the UK, where the client’s teams are gradually transitioning to a more data-driven project management approach. Initially, there was a degree of reluctance from some team members to adopt digital tools such as dashboards, preferring more traditional methods.

To address these concerns, Buro Matei is guiding the client’s teams through a mindset shift, encouraging the adoption of dashboards to improve tracking and efficiency. Regular daily meetings have been established to foster stronger collaboration and ensure that the teams in Amsterdam and the Philippines remain aligned.

With these efforts, the project is seeing improved results, including an 85% first-time-right rate and the issuance of over 2,000 fully first-time-right Piping IFC deliverables. The client team in their Philippines office has fully embraced the data integration and dashboard system, demonstrating how digital tools can lead to better prioritization and smoother project execution. Buro Matei continues to provide ongoing support to ensure the system remains effective and that teams stay engaged with the new tools.

Green Hydrogen-Based Steel Production (Sweden): Fostering Data-Driven Execution

In Sweden, Buro Matei is supporting the client’s development of a green hydrogen-based steel production facility, a key EPC project that is contributing to more sustainable industrial practices. The team of Buro Matei has developed several data-driven dashboards and continue to provide support. Despite more advanced methods available, the project’s owner required progress to be closely monitored using a Master Document Register (MDR)-based progress measurement, which requires high precision due to the tight owner oversight.

To help the client’s global teams in the Netherlands, India and the USA manage this complex project, Buro Matei has developed a custom MDR Dashboard that provides real-time data insights. Buro Matei is also providing guidance on how to use these insights to improve project planning, forecasting, and reporting.

The automated progress reports generated by the dashboard offer teams greater visibility into project status, allowing for faster decision-making and better alignment with deliverable issue targets. By improving transparency and providing data-driven execution tools, Buro Matei is helping the client’s teams stay focused on meeting their ambitious project goals.

Refinery Retrofit Project (Sweden): Laying the Groundwork for Future Success

Buro Matei has begun supporting the EPC phase of it’s client’s refinery retrofit project in Sweden, where the goal is to update the facility to use renewable feedstock. Buro Matei’s involvement is still in the early stages, and effort so far has been focused on laying the groundwork for effective collaboration and execution.

Buro Matei has developed a Level of Development (LOD)-based collaboration tool to centralize data from various teams and locations, which will help align the teams. Initial meetings have been held, system integration and dashboard development is well underway, and Buro Matei is providing guidance on how to effectively implement the tool across the project.

However, the team faces a challenge in adopting this new system, with some resistance to the mindset shift required for first-time-right execution. While the tools are in place, their full impact is yet to be seen, and the focus is now on supporting the team as they adjust to this new way of working.

Buro Matei’s consultancy services are actively contributing to the progress of these global projects by promoting data-driven methodologies, enhancing team collaboration, and providing tools that support better project management. With ongoing efforts in mindset shifts and digital adoption, Buro Matei continues to assist the client’s international teams in improving efficiency and driving project success.
